What is Phi Beta Delta?

Phi Beta Delta honors those who serve internationalism - the idea of a world connected, of respect for different traditions, of the need for education to enhance knowledge of the many cultures that are part of a globe that we all must share.

Phi Beta Delta, founded at California State University, Long Beach in 1986, was established as an organization in 1987 with 38 chartered chapters, many of which had existed for a considerable time previously at the local level. It is the first honor society dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education. As of July, 2009, 176 chapters have been chartered. (Read more…)

Can I become a member of my University’s Chapter?

Yes, any student, faculty, or staff person at a college and university with a chapter of Phi Beta Delta is potentially eligible to become a member. If you would like to become a member of Phi Beta Delta, please contact your Campus Coordinator (see Chapter Listings) to find out the eligibility requirements for your chapter. If your institution does not yet have a chapter, please ask administrators or faculty at your institution to contact the Phi Beta Delta Executive Office to learn how to start a chapter on your campus.

How can my University start a new chapter?

Many resources are available to help you start a chapter on your campus. The information in the Chapter Manual pdf can serve as an extensive overview of the steps you should take to get started. There are certain requirements your institution must fulfill in order to be eligible (View requirements). Once you have reviewed this information, you should contact and submit the filled out Chapter Chartering Petition Form pdf to the Executive Office.
