Notes from New Orleans: Beta Lambda Chapter Posted: January 31, 2008
The University of New Orleans Beta Lambda Chapter of Phi Beta Delta has been very active in recruiting new membership to its own. On November 15, 2007 an official induction ceremony was held. Twenty-nine new members were inducted and two important administrators at UNO were given honorary membership.
As part of International Education Week 2007 PBD significantly sponsored an international photo contest. The exhibition and ceremony were held in the Flambeau Room at UNO. The event included live musical performances, cash prizes to top entries, and a brief speech by UNO’s Provost.
Continuing with the notion of inviting guest speakers for each scheduled meeting at the executive and society levels, thus far our Phi Beta Delta community has heard presentations by important campus visitors representing Moldova and Egypt. Throughout the spring semester our plans are to have one to two speakers for the three forthcoming meetings. We will be hearing next from our Ecuadorian and Swedish guests.
We are also pleased to announce that we will be presenting honorary memberships to Dr. Franz Mathis, University of Innsbruck, Austria and to the Austrian Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Eva Nowotny, on February 8, 2008, when UNO’s Center Austria celebrates its tenth year anniversary.
Finally, to all of our fellow Phi Beta Delta Chapters, we wish for you a most pleasant Mardi Gras.
Cordially, Dr. Frankie J. Kelly Chapter Coordinator Beta Lambda Chapter Phi Beta Delta The University of New Orleans
