Phi Beta Delta is pleased to announce a new initiative that expands our benefits of membership. We are soliciting a panel at the International Studies Association Conference. This particular benefit of membership is targeted at faculty; however, ABD candidates and administrators who are interested in scholarly research can also apply. The benefits of applying for a spot on the panel are many. Among them, the larger audience of ISA needs to hear our message, and there is a possible, slight advantage in going to the ISA Conference as a panel as opposed to going as an individual.
We are well aware of the brief time period in which to submit your abstract and bio. Should this effort be successful this year, we will endeavor to allow for a greater response time from our members. In order to save time, you may want to consult the ISA website for details about the ISA Conference itself: http://www.isanet.org/newyork2009/
This panel in no way interferes with our Twenty-Third Phi Beta Delta Annual Conference that will be announced shortly.
In order to take advantage of this new initiative you must
have current membership in Phi Beta Delta[1]
be reasonably certain that you or your university can fund your participation in the conference[2]
submit an abstract that reflects the theme of Phi Beta Delta's panel
submit your abstract and bio by the deadline of Monday, May 19, 2008

[1] Your dues payment for membership in PBD should be current. Dues are paid to individual chapters and not to headquarters.
[2] Phi Beta Delta only sponsors the panel itself. We cannot contribute financially to the individual member's participation in the conference. Instead and as with any academic conference, it is expected that either your institution or you will pay the costs associated with reading a paper at the conference. In addition, ISA does offer small stipends for some attendees who request it early: http://www.isanet.org/travel-guideline.html
