International Research and Review:
Journal of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the International Research and Review: Journal of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars.
This is Volume 1, Number 1 of our new journal. Although it could be considered a continuation of our previous journal, International Review, this is not exactly possible primarily due to the hiatus between its cessation and the present; the rise of the internet as a powerful publication repository; and the technical reason that on-line publications now have their own ISSN as opposed to the ISBN for books and periodicals in print, such as the International Review. But, as you can see from the new title, the character of our previous journal has been retained.
To put this publication in context, the 2011-2016 strategic plan for the Society identifies three important areas that have importance of publications: Recognition, Advancement, and Cultivation. You will find the Society seeks to:
- Disseminate and share the scholarship of our members with the global academic community. (Recognition)
- Provide a forum for academic inquiry and dialogue among all members and stakeholders. (Advancement)
- Cultivate support for international education among campus leadership by working with university administrators to expand the support for international education among campus leaders. (Cultivation)
An important role of our Society is to advance knowledge and advocate for international education. Publications play an important role in establishing the Society as a contributor to these roles and the above strategic goals. Presentations at the annual conference begin the process of disseminating these ideas. Publication in our journal, International Research and Review, can now serve as another beacon for practitioners, advocates, stakeholders, and researchers.
The presentations at the annual conference provides most of the articles for this volume. Yet, the Journal welcomes submissions of manuscripts from all members of the Society, even if they have not presented at the annual conference. Your are invited to explore the Journal website for the Aims and Purposes, Author Guidelines, and Editorial Board.
Also, a further comment about the Society's publications. The previous publication, International Review, was published from 1990 -2002. With the strong support of the Executive Director, Dr. Rueyling Chuang, the Board approved the scanning and posting to the Society website each of the twelve volumes of the International Review. This will be a valuable resource for many members, as well as researchers.
Finally, I would like to thank the many people who contributed to design and development of this journal, especially the new headquarters staff in San Bernardino. With everyone's support we will continue to publish the scholarship of our Society.
Michael B. Smithee Director of Publications, and Editor of the International Research and Review
